goals by providing the skills necessary for success in today’s
workplace. Individuals making the transition into new work
environments benefit from JVS career and employment counseling, job
placement, English instruction and occupational skills training
programs. JVS is a non-sectarian, not-for profit corporation
founded in 1973. JVS is a nationally recognized innovator in
workforce development, and plays a leadership role in collaborative
employment and training efforts throughout San Francisco.
Position
Summary:
Under the
supervision of the Allied Health Sector Manager, the Allied Health
Sector Coordinator will coordinate all aspects of JVS’ Patient
Services Representative training program. The Allied Health (AH)
Sector Coordinator will work closely with JVS employer training
partners and local educational institutions to ensure that these
programs operate smoothly and successfully. The AH Sector
Coordinator will also work to increase JVS’ presence in underserved
communities throughout San Francisco, by connecting interested job
seekers in these communities to existing JVS services. The AH Sector
Coordinator will provide job search and placement assistance to
Allied Health sector clients. The AH Sector Coordinator will also be
involved in the coordination of onsite incumbent worker training in
healthcare facilities.
Responsibilities:
Program
Coordination
§
Manages performance and compliance for Patient Services
Representative contract objectives. Provides wide-ranging
program support, including outreach and recruitment; assessment
and referral; facilitating collaboration amongst stakeholders;
documentation and reporting; internship support; and job
development and retention. This program serves 15-20 clients
each cycle.
§
Collaborates closely with UCSF, other healthcare facilities and
educational training partners to identify needs of program
participants and develops innovative support services to address
these needs.
§
Coordinates between JVS and employers to ensure appropriate
client recruitment, assessment, enrollment, case management, and
placement; provides follow-up with clients as needed.
§
Represents JVS at appropriate community forums; coordinates
recruitment of training and employer partners and maintains
superior customer service with funders, staff, collaborating
agencies, employers and participants at all times.
§
Assists in program development and planning for healthcare
career ladder training programs; participates in allied health
and healthcare sector teams.
Workshop
Facilitation and Classroom Instruction
§
Coordinates and facilitates job search skills workshops for AH
job seekers, including PSR program participants and residents of
disadvantaged San Francisco neighborhoods. Topics may cover
resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, networking
skills, online job searches, etc. May coordinate or facilitate
upwards of 6-8 workshops annually.
§
Coordinates and facilitates employer presentations and panels
for AH job seekers, including CNA program participants or
residents of disadvantaged San Francisco neighborhoods on
specific employment opportunities and hiring practices at these
institutions. May coordinate or facilitate upwards of 6-8
workshops annually.
§
Arranges employer job fairs for graduates of specific programs,
on an as-needed basis.
Educational &
Employment Counseling/Job search & Placement Assistance
§
Conducts initial assessment of JVS clients’ needs and helps them
to complete all required JVS and collaborating partner
paperwork.
§
Assists students in overcoming roadblocks to success and
develops strategies to address potential barriers throughout the
continuum of training, internships, placement and retention of
employment.
§
Arranges for other support services as necessary while in JVS
Patient Services Representative training program which may
include referrals to counseling, childcare, housing, and
financial planning services.
§
Offers or coordinates upfront test preparation, study skills,
ongoing tutoring and quiz preparation support to program
participants.
§
Offers vocational counseling to clients working towards medical
administrative positions. Helps clients to identify appropriate
short and long term employment objectives; maps out strategies
for reaching employment objectives; provides corresponding job
development services and supports the client throughout the job
search.
§
Provides job search and placement assistance to Clinic Assistant
graduates and provides follow-up services, maintaining contact
with supervisors and clients for up to one year. Works with
clients to identify employment environments that will match
their skill level, experience and long-term career goals.
§
Provides job search and placement assistance onsite to residents
of disadvantaged neighborhoods throughout San Francisco.
§
Assists Allied Health Sector Manager to develop career maps of
healthcare partner institutions, including maps of
administrative, technical and patient care career maps that can
be used to advise incumbent workers on career opportunities.
§
Assists existing healthcare employees in developing
individualized education and training plans that match their
career goals, and to support employees to enroll in appropriate
training programs offered by their employer. The initial pilot
of this training program will serve ~30 people.
Program
Outreach and Community Relations
§
Conducts outreach to Allied Health students throughout San
Francisco, highlighting JVS services through classroom
presentations, one-on-one consultations, phone calls and emails.
§
Screens and recruits participants for JVS Allied Health Training
programs.
§
Promotes other JVS healthcare programs and services and builds
partnerships with other JVS staff, City College San Francisco,
employers and collaborative agencies.
§
Represents JVS in related community forums and at healthcare
networking events.
Employer
Account Management
§
As part of the Allied Health and Healthcare sector teams,
provides ongoing occupational research of the local labor
market. Helps identify companies and businesses with potential
growth. Performs labor market analysis, and communicates
information to clients and team members.
§
Performs ongoing outreach to sector employers; develops and
maintains collaborative relationships with hiring managers.
Promotes JVS services to prospective sector employers and
community groups.
§
Assists employers to assure the successful integration of
workers into the workforce. Responsible for managing assigned
employer accounts. Makes presentations to employers, conducts
site visits and organizes employer panels.
Program
Administration
§
Ensures compliance with agency and funding reporting
requirements including contract documentation, program
statistics and client case files.
§
Responsible for tracking and reporting client progress and
employer engagement activities to MIS department. Maintains
participant case records, program data and other statistical
records as needed.
§
Participates in departmental, agency and community meetings.
§
Participates in JVS Intake system including all counselor and
contributes as needed to resource guide.
§
Other duties as needed.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Experience):
§
Demonstrated experience coordinating and providing services to
individuals with barriers to employment in an employment and
training and/or vocational education setting.
§
Excellent project management, trouble-shooting, multi-tasking and
decision-making skills.
§
Strong teamwork skills in a collaborative work environment
§
Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and creative in
approach to new programs.
§
Familiarity with allied health career pathways, including regional
training programs is a plus. Understanding of current needs and
recruiting trends in healthcare is desired.
§
Familiarity with Bay Area workforce development resources, including
support services and other resources for trainees and job seekers.
§
Experience in employment counseling, job development, and placement
with persons from various professional and ethnic backgrounds.
Excellent cross-cultural communication skills and the ability and
willingness to work with economically and culturally diverse
clientele.
§
Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills;
patience, diplomacy, and a high level of customer service skills
required.
§
Well
organized, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet goal
objectives; excellent team player. True attention to detail, ability
to complete paperwork accurately in a timely fashion.
§
Strong presentation skills, including public speaking, networking,
and written communications.
§
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, understanding of concept
of relational database, competent in using Internet and excellent
research abilities.
§
B.A./B.S. degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Salary: $42,000 - $45,000
