Jewish Vocational Service helps individuals and businesses achieve
their employment goals by providing the skills necessary for success
in today’s workplace. Individuals making the transition into new
work environments benefit from JVS career and employment counseling,
job placement, English instruction and occupational skills training
programs. JVS is a non-sectarian, not-for profit corporation
founded in 1973. JVS is a nationally recognized innovator in
workforce development, and plays a leadership role in collaborative
employment and training efforts throughout San Francisco.
The Youth Department provides a continuum of vocational and
employment services for youth ages 14-24 with disabilities,
primarily youth with learning, emotional, or mental health
disabilities. Services include a year-long vocational program for
high school students, job counseling, development and placement,
computer skills training, and transition services for older youth,
including case-management, competitive employment placement, and
post-secondary education counseling services. The Youth Department
serves approximately 600 San Francisco youth each year.
Position
Summary:
This position is responsible for coordinating JVS’ Community-based
Employment Program (CBEP) and REACH computer skills training
program, providing employment services to youth with disabilities,
and supervising 1 part-time REACH instructor. CBEP is a pilot
employment and life skills training program for youth with
disabilities ages 18-22 who have not yet completed high school.
Based at JVS, this program will test an alternative service model
for youth traditionally served through San Francisco Unified School
District’s Community Access Transition programs on high school
campuses. REACH is a Microsoft Office training program for youth
with disabilities. The position reports to the Transition Programs
Manager.
Responsibilities:

Coordinates the implementation and provision of the
Community-based Employment Program (CBEP) at JVS in close
partnership with San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD);
provides leadership and direction for SFUSD program staff
including 1 instructor and 1 classroom-aide/job coach.

Coordinates the implementation and provision of the REACH
computer skills training program; supervises 1 part-time REACH
instructor.

Provides employment services to program participants including
assessment, counseling, job development, job placement and
support; develops community-based employment opportunities for
participants including internships and competitive employment.

Provides classroom support to instructors as needed, arranges
for and incorporates guest speakers, site visits, and other
opportunities to enrich participants’ learning experience.

Serve as liaison between the participants, family and employers.

Represents JVS Youth Department with SFUSD and other partners,
and cultivates collaborative relationships with Special
Education Services, high school principals, Special Education
Department Heads, and individual teachers as appropriate.

Facilitates team meetings and oversees the development and
provision of curricula.

Participates in Youth Department, SFUSD and community meetings
as appropriate.

Ensures completion of data collection, reporting, contract
compliance and evaluation.

Assists in the development of grant proposals, youth department
workplans, and other planning.

Assists with Youth Department activities including workshops,
group service projects, field trips, job fairs, orientations,
and graduations.

Participates in industry sector initiatives including Employer
Relationship Management and sector specific activities.

Completes and maintain service documentation, client files, and
reports as requested.

Participates in program, department, collaborative, and industry
sector meetings as requested.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Experience):
-
BA in Social Science, Psychology, Special Education or
Rehabilitation.

Experience providing vocational services including vocational
education and training, job counseling, job development and
placement with knowledge of the Bay Area employment community.

Experience working with culturally diverse youth who have
learning, physical and emotional disabilities.
-
Experience managing or coordinating youth and/or vocational
programs including supervising staff.
-
Knowledge of Bay Area labor market, local employers, and human
service resources.
-
Excellent classroom presentation, motivational, and management
skills with youth.
-
Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to work
independently and as part of team.
-
Excellent
communication, relationship-building, and computer skills
(Microsoft Office).
Salary:
$42,000 - $47,000

Limited-term positions are not eligible for benefits, except
workers’ compensation insurance and San Francisco Paid Sick Leave
