To
respond to the increasing numbers of unemployed individuals, increased
lengths of job search times and increased competition, JVS provides
immediate and effective job placement support and job development
services to targeted customer groups: dislocated workers and economically
disadvantaged adults, public assistance recipients, refugees and
immigrants, and individuals with barriers to employment.
Participants
work closely with an Employment Specialist on an individual basis
to review resumes and cover letters, implement individual job search
strategies and conduct job development activity. Sessions are tailored
to meet the needs of individual clients and may include developing
job leads, cold calling and interview practice among others. JVS
will also provide regular job search skills courses for small groups.
The local Workforce Investment Board and EDD Faith-Based Initiative
support this program.
Employment
Department staff work with employers, unions and other service providers
to recruit participants, with special outreach to those affected
by layoffs in the airline, hospitality, manufacturing, tourism,
information technology, finance and other industries.
