Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the JobLink Program Coordinator and in close collaboration with the Business Services Manager, Business Sector team members, and employers, the Employment Specialist provides individualized job search and placement assistance to Business Services clients, to adults with disabilities, and others with challenges to employment.  The Employment Specialist conducts specialized outreach to individuals with disabilities and other challenges in the Jewish community.  This includes assessing their skills as they pertain to the local job market and assisting them in setting and reaching appropriate employment objectives.  The Employment Specialist works with individuals and groups.

Responsibilities:

Employment Counseling/Job Search & Placement Assistance

  • Provides job search and placement assistance to JobLink and Business Services clients. Provides post-placement follow-up services by maintaining contact with supervisors and clients for up to 12 months.  Makes appropriate job referrals and assists with the job match.
  • Assesses clients’ occupational skills and interests as they pertain to the local job market and assists them in setting and reaching appropriate employment objectives.  Assesses the need for accommodations in the workplace.
  • Provides career, vocational and employment counseling, and assists in the development of an Employment Action Plan; identify appropriate short and long term employment objectives; map out strategies for reaching employment objectives; provides corresponding job development; and supports the client throughout the job search by determining clients’ educational and professional qualifications and transferable skills. 
  • Assists clients in identifying appropriate short and long-term employment objectives; maps out strategies for reaching employment objectives; provides corresponding job development; and supports the client throughout the job search.
  • Conduct labor market surveys for Department of Rehabilitation clients.
  • Coordinate client referrals and progress and provide follow-up information to referring agencies and the Department of Rehabilitation.
  • Arranges for participant support services as necessary: counseling, crisis intervention, childcare, transportation, medical/dental services, access to JVS Technology Access Center, and employment workshops.

 Employer Account Management

  • Identifies employer organizations with potential growth. Performs labor market analysis and communicates the information to clients and team members.
  • Performs on-going outreach to sector employers, develops and maintains collaborative relationships with hiring managers. Promotes JVS services to prospective sector employers and community groups.
  • Assists employers to assure the successful integration of workers into the workforce, which may include working with the Department of Rehabilitation and other collaborative partners to arrange sensitivity training. Responsible for managing assigned employer accounts. Provides presentations to employers, site visits, and organizes employer panels.

Community Relations and Coordination

  • Acts as a liaison among JVS and employers, and other collaborative entities including community based non-profit organizations serving people with disabilities.
  • Conducts outreach and builds partnerships with other JVS staff and collaborative agencies.
  • Conduct client outreach within the Jewish and general community.
  • Represents JVS in related community forums and at nonprofit networking events.
  • Provides outplacement services and develops customized training to employers, as appropriate.
  • Makes referrals to collaborative organizations and programs.

Program Administration

  • Ensures compliance with agency and funding reporting requirements including contract documentation, program statistics, and client case files.
  • Responsible for tracking and reporting client progress and employer engagement activities to MIS department. 
  • Maintains participant case records, program data, and other statistical records as needed. 
  • Assists in preparation for program audits and monitoring visits.
  • Participates in the sector, agency and community meetings.
  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Experience):

  • Knowledge of and experience working with the disabled community.
  • Experience providing services to adults with barriers to employment, employment counseling, job development, and placement with persons from various professional and ethnic backgrounds preferred.
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills and the ability and willingness to work with economically and culturally diverse clientele. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, patience, diplomacy, and high level of customer service skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills, including public speaking, networking, and written communications.
  • Well organized, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet goal objectives; excellent team player. True attention to detail, ability to complete paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Continuous commitment to improve occupational knowledge.
  • Computer proficient in MS Office or similar program, understanding of concept of relational database, competent in using Internet and excellent research abilities.
  • B.A./B.S degree in a related field preferred.

Salary:   $37,000 - $42,000
