SAN
FRANCISCO - Employment Development Department Director Michael Bernick
and California Board of Equalization Chairwoman Carole Migden presented
Jewish Vocational Services with a grant for $300,000 to fund that
organization's Recession
Response program today.
The
funds will be used for job placement and vocational training for
people who have been dislocated from the workforce and focuses on
preventing dependence on welfare programs.
Chairwoman
Migden wishes to thank outgoing Governor Gray Davis for his openness
in providing these much needed job-training funds. "At the
BOE, we're trying to eliminate tax givebacks for anachronistic employment
development programs, and it's just as important to fund programs
that provide appropriate skills for this moment in history,"
said Migden. "Governor Davis has proven in the last days of
his administration that he has a commitment to employment that make
sense for San Francisco," she said.
