Interested in a Career in Biotechnology?
JVS and City College of San Francisco want to help
you find a job in the city’s growing Biotech industry. We can offer
you:
A one-year course in the skills you’ll need in the biotech industry
The two-semester Bridge to Biotech program at City College provides
a rigorous and engaging introduction to biotechnology. Bridge
students learn essential laboratory skills while at the same time
strengthening the math and language skills that they will need to
work in biotech. Students completing the program are qualified to
pursue certification in Biomanufacturing, Biotechnician or Stem Cell
Research, or an A.S. degree.
A PAID 180-hour internship in a professional
biotechnology laboratory
CCSF and JVS place students in a paid ($9.50/ hour)
internship at a Bay Area lab for 10-15 hours per week (180 hours
total). Currently, 65% of the Fall 07 students have been
placed in biotech internships or permanent employment while
continuing their training!
Job placement assistance – we’ll help you find your
first biotech job!
While City College offers the classroom training, JVS counselors
help prepare students for career-track internships in local research
laboratories, and provide job placement assistance to program
graduates. Graduates have gotten jobs at UCSF, the U.S. Department
of Agriculture, Chiron, and Genentech earning between $28k- $50k
with opportunities for growth and advancement. They are qualified
for positions such as bio-processing, glassware technician, lab
assistant, animal care technician, and environmental health and
safety technicians.
