Vocational Service helps individuals and businesses achieve their
employment goals by providing the skills necessary for success in
today’s workplace. Individuals making the transition into new work
environments benefit from JVS career and employment counseling, job
placement, English instruction and occupational skills training
programs. JVS is a non-sectarian, not-for profit corporation
founded in 1973. JVS is a nationally recognized innovator in
workforce development, and plays a leadership role in collaborative
employment and training efforts throughout San Francisco.
The Youth
Department provides a continuum of vocational and employment
services for youth ages 14-24 with disabilities, primarily youth
with learning, emotional, or mental health disabilities. Services
include a year-long vocational program for high school students, job
counseling, development and placement, computer skills training, and
transition services for older youth, including case-management,
competitive employment placement, and post-secondary education
counseling services. The Youth Department serves approximately 600
San Francisco youth each year.
Position
Summary:
This position
is responsible for coordinating JVS’ Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
youth services (Transitions to Self-Success Program), and
supervising 1 Education/Employment Specialist. This program provides
high school-age youth with disabilities that are completing their
high school diploma through the City College of San Francisco, John
Adams campus, with academic, employment, and career services.
Transitions to Self-Success aims to increase the rate of high school
diploma recipients, while concurrently providing program
participants with access to paid employment, and career advising to
further increase rate of transition to post-secondary education.
Responsibilities:

Coordinates the development and implementation of the Workforce
Investment Act (WIA) funded Transitions to Self-Success Program
in close partnership with City College of San Francisco (CCSF),
John Adams Campus, Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS).

Supervises
1 Education/Employment Specialist position in providing
academic, employment, and career services to students with
disabilities. Sets annual goals/objectives, and conducts annual
performance evaluations with staff.

Provides
academic, employment and career services to program participants
including assessment, enrollment, counseling, job development,
job placement and support.

Coordinates service planning with youths’ caregivers and service
providers as appropriate: school staff, mental health
counselors, social workers and other community partners.

Completes
and maintains service documentation, client files, and reports
as requested.

Represents
JVS Youth Department with CCSF and other partners, and
cultivates collaborative relationships with DSPS, San Francisco
Unified School District Special Education Services, and
individual teachers as appropriate.

Participates in WIA contract and community meetings as
appropriate.

Ensures
completion of WIA data collection, reporting, contract
compliance and evaluation requirements.

Assists in
the development of grant proposals, youth department workplans,
and other planning as appropriate.

Assists
with Youth Department activities including workshops, group
service projects, field trips, job fairs, orientations, and
graduations.

Participates in industry sector initiatives including Employer
Relationship Management and sector specific activities.

Completes
and maintain service documentation, client files, and reports as
requested.

Participates in program, department, collaborative, and industry
sector meetings as requested.

Other
duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Experience):
-
BA in
Social Science, Psychology, Special Education or Rehabilitation.

Experience
providing vocational services including vocational education and
training, job counseling, job development and placement with
knowledge of the Bay Area employment community.

Experience
working with culturally diverse youth who have learning,
physical and emotional disabilities in a vocational setting.

Experience
managing or coordinating youth and/or vocational programs
including supervising staff; experience with WIA-funded program
preferred.

Knowledge
of Bay Area labor market, local employers, and human service
resources.

Excellent
classroom presentation, motivational, and management skills with
youth.
-
Excellent
organizational skills, with the ability to work independently
and as part of team.

Excellent
communication, relationship-building, and computer skills
(Microsoft Office).
Salary: $42,000 - $47,000
