This workshop will provide you with the tools to craft strong targeted cover letters. Review sample written correspondence and learn how to target your communication for jobs and employers. Please bring a printed copy of a job posting that matches your professional objective, for use in workshop activities.
The job market can be challenging for recent college grads, leaving many unemployed, underemployed, or dissatisfied with their work. This reality can be discouraging, which is why you should attend this interactive workshop that offers the tools, methods, and motivation for effectively navigating the job market. You’ll leave this workshop with a better chance of landing your dream job.
This class will explore Microsoft’s Windows 7 Operating System. What are its major features? How is it different from Windows XP? This hands-on three-hour workshop presents an overview of the new Start Menu, Desktop, Taskbar and Windows Explorer design, and the improved screen views and search capabilities.
Pre-requisite: This is a beginner level class. Students should be comfortable using the keyboard and mouse. Please bring a flash drive to practice copying files.
This strategy group is a place for job seekers with disabilities to network, brainstorm, and problem-solve in a supportive and collaborative environment on a bi-weekly basis. The group is facilitated by JVS staff in a forum in which you can discuss your job search strategies with a special focus on the challenge of working with a disability. This will also include a discussion about workplace accommodations and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Social media networks such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter are great tools for today’s job seekers. If you’re not sure how to get started, wondering about issues such as privacy and professional image, or where best to focus your efforts, this workshop is for you! This introductory workshop will show you how to best utilize each social media site for your job search.
Twitter is a networking and microblogging website that allows you to send and read short messages, (140 characters in length), called “tweets”. Twitter helps you to create a growing community, find local job openings, gain and share knowledge with others in your industry, and market yourself to your professional network. This workshop will cover Twitter basics, strategies for using Twitter, Twitter feed and Twitter tools. Come learn how to use Twitter to help you land your next job!
Do you get stuck when trying to write or edit your resume? Learn how to think like an employer in this introductory workshop. You will review sample resumes to gain a better understanding of what makes a lasting impression on employers. We will discuss best practices for formatting your resume; tailoring your message; and making yourself stand out from other job applicants. Please bring a printed copy of a job posting that matches your professional objective, for use in workshop activities.
This strategy group is an informal, bi-weekly, drop-in meeting tailored for job seekers 50+ who are looking for a safe environment to discuss job search concerns and needs. The group is facilitated by JVS staff in a forum in which you can discuss your job search with a special focus on the challenges of work transitions and age discrimination.

This foundational workshop will give you an overview of the entire job search process. You’ll be able to identify weaknesses and strengths in your current search and gain the necessary tools to stay organized. We will briefly discuss effective networking etiquette, resume formats, cover letter tips, interview preparation activities, follow-up communication, and job references.
