Paid Student Internships

Kohn Summer Intern Program

Your future starts this summer!

Internship applications are now available! Be sure to also download the FAQ, the essay questions and letter of recommendation form to complete your application.

If you work with a Jewish non-profit agency, find out how to host an intern this summer. Or if you're a former Kohn intern, join our Kohn Mentor Program.

Build Your Skills
Spend eight weeks learning from your peers, gaining practical skills, and earning valuable workplace experience at a leading Jewish non-profit agency.  We will match your interests and career goals with a fulfilling internship where you will help a Jewish agency, learn professional skills, and participate in Jewish Community Life.

Learn from the Experts
Learn more about the issues facing Jewish college students today.  In addition to your four-day-a-week internship, you will attend a Friday Seminar series. Share your internship experiences, develop your professional skills, hear from guest speakers and experts in the field, and examine contentious topics such as Israel, anti-semitism, interfaith relationships, and work ethics in Judaism.  Each seminar will conclude with an optional Kabbalat Shabbat.

Meet Your Community
One of the most exciting parts of the program is meeting other college students from all corners of the Jewish community.  The Kohn program features social events including an intern retreat, a group community service project, a night at the Jewish film Festival, and a Shabbat dinner.  Each Kohn intern will also be matched with a mentor – a recent Kohn alumni who will help you build your professional network and give you advice throughout the program.

Internship Topics
  • Political advocacy
  • Marketing, public relations, and advertising
  • Direct service with youth or the elderly

Is Kohn right for you?
JVS has been placing college students in Jewish agencies for over 20 years. We’re looking for engaged and motivated college students who are eager to work in a professional environment, interested in exploring the Jewish Community, and excited to learn.  Kohn interns come from across the Jewish spectrum, and must be comfortable working with people of different backgrounds.  Each intern will receive a $2,500 stipend for his or her participation in the program.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the Kohn Summer Intern Program, you must be an undergraduate who has completed at least one year of college and a resident of San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma, the Peninsula or the Greater East Bay (only 3 spots available in the East Bay).

For more information, contact Rebecca Goodman, or call (415) 782-6225.
