Paid Student Internships

Kohn Summer Intern Program

What is the Kohn Summer Intern Program?
The Kohn Summer Intern Program is an innovative eight week program that provides college undergraduates the opportunity to work in Jewish communal service. Placed in professional positions at leading Bay Area Jewish communal agencies, participants gain valuable work experience and receive supervision and mentoring from Jewish community leaders. Additionally, participants are introduced to volunteer opportunities, and are exposed to issues currently facing the Jewish community.

Your Future Starts This Summer!
2012 Summer Internship applications (Word/PDF) are now available! Be sure to review the FAQ, and have two letters of recommendation (Word/PDF) completed and submitted directly to JVS to complete your application.

Build Your Skills
Spend eight weeks learning from your peers, gaining practical skills, and earning valuable workplace experience at a leading Jewish non-profit agency. We will match your interests and career goals with a fulfilling internship where you will help a Jewish agency, learn professional skills, and participate in Jewish community life.

Learn from the Experts
Learn more about the issues facing Jewish college students today. In addition to your four-day-a-week internship, you will participate in a Friday Seminar series. In these seminars interns will share their internship experiences, develop professional skills, hear from guest speakers and experts in the field of Jewish communal service, and examine topics of interest to college students today.

Meet Your Community
One of the most exciting parts of the program is meeting other college students from throughout the local Jewish community. The Kohn program features social events including an intern retreat, a group community service project, a night at the Jewish film Festival, and a Shabbat dinner. Each Kohn intern will also be matched with a mentor - a recent Kohn alumni who will help you build your professional network and give you advice throughout the program.

Internship Topics Include
  • Political Advocacy
  • Marketing, Public Relations, and Advertising
  • Direct Service with youth or the elderly
  • Journalism
  • Event Coordination
  • Research and Writing
