Nursing Refresher Programs

San Francisco Program

JVS in collaboration with the City College of San Francisco (CCSF) offers a 17-week, 4 day/week training program for Licensed Vocational and Registered Nurses, trained in the United States or abroad, who need a refresher course or want a nursing skills brush-up to reenter the field. This is a successful 18-year program offered in collaboration between JVS, CCSF’s Vocational Nursing Program, and local medical facilities.

The program offers:
  • Theoretical practice & clinical experience at City College of San Francisco, San Francisco General Hospital and Laguna Honda Hospital
  • General support completing the course (individualized coaching & referral to resources)
  • Job placement assistance – we’ll help you get your first or next Nurse job!

You can participate in this program if you have:

  • CA LVN or RN license (valid or expired)
  • Valid authorization to work in the U.S.
  • A CCSF ESL level of 150 or above (if a non-native English speaker)
  • Valid American Heart Association CPR (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
  • Ability to provide clear and current medical exams and immunization records.
The Nursing Refresher course will run from August 20 – December 18, 2012.

East Bay Program

JVS in collaboration with Chabot College and Alameda County Medical Center offers a successful 10-week Immigrant Nurse Re-Entry Program (INRP) for Registered Nurses who were trained abroad and are facing barriers to employment in the U.S. In the past, this program was funded by East Bay foundations who recognize that foreign-educated nurses face many barriers to finding employment upon arrival to the U.S. Therefore, the class is geared toward foreign-educated nurses who have not yet practiced as RNs in the U.S. and who live in the East Bay. We hope to be able to provide another cycle of this program in the summer of 2012 (early June-mid August).
