The Role

JVS is seeking a Director of Job Development to create and manage a centralized job placement function for JVS job seekers and program graduates. This position will report to Vice President of Strategy and will primarily collaborate with program staff to drive and create connections to employment opportunities and drive up placement rates into high-quality jobs across the agency.

Job Placement Services

  • Design centralized placement strategy to move JVS clients into high-quality jobs across multiple sectors, occupations, and service tracks
    • Map strategy across both JVS client journey and JVS service tracks; create service flow that effectively transitions clients from one staff person to another (“warm handoff”)
  • Implement placement strategy and services to serve JVS clients across departments and training tracks
  • Secure and fill job requisition goals annually to be filled by JVS graduates to meet organizational positive outcomes goals; secure job opportunities for JVS graduates
  • Lead agency through change from de-centralized to centralized placement function
  • Hire and oversee placement services team
    • Manage team to follow-up with candidates and hiring companies through regular check-ins and account management, and conduct regular check-ins with partners to address partner concerns and gather feedback on JVS graduate performance
  • Lead job placement component of the Bay Area Opportunity Onramps initiative
    • Coordinate with high-profile partners including Jobs for the Future and Opportunity@Work
    • Ensure coordination and service delivery to meet initiative target goals

Employer & Business Development

  • Develop employer connections to support placement service
  • Support development of employer engagement strategy serving clients agency-wide; Manage a portfolio of hiring partners
  • Support development of internal systems and processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness of employer engagement
  • Engage JVS Employer Advisory Boards and support the Business Development and Strategy Committee
  • Generate account maps for all accounts
  • Promote JVS graduates to hiring companies
  • Deliver the JVS value proposition to local employers through in-person and phone-based sales presentations

Job Search Support Coordination

  • Assess and inform services needed to prepare JVS clients for placement
  • Advise on agency-wide approach and delivery of job search methodology and curriculum; ensure alignment across service delivery
  • Coordinate with agency staff delivering job search support curriculum and services

Minimum Qualifications

  • Exceptional ability to engage with employers and secure commitments to hiring non-traditional candidates
  • Impeccable professional customer service skills with exceptional follow-up and follow-through
  • Strong knowledge of sales practices
  • Excellent leadership skills; strong ability to recruit and supervise high-performing staff
  • Ability to lead department and agency-wide change management
  • Ability to design processes and workflows across internal departments
  • Strong project management skills; able to plan effectively and both stay on track and hold others accountable to deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience overseeing recruiters/headhunters
  • Ability to act as both an individual contributor and team leader
  • Experience with Salesforce.com or other CRM systems
  • Knowledge of Bay Area employer ecosystem and landscape; existing relationships with high-volume, high-impact Bay Area employers
