BACKGROUND:

The focus of the COVID19 Disaster Relief Program is designed to assist individuals impacted by COVID19.  Services will include a comprehensive spectrum of support to address barriers to economic self-sufficiency that disaster survivors often experience.  The COVID19 Disaster Relief and Recovery Program will reflect CCSCC’s long-time commitment to using evidence-based practices, including assessment tools and curricula, a client centered philosophy, motivational interviewing, and reflective listening.  Services may include food distribution, intake, assessment, case management, public benefits navigation, housing services, life skills and job readiness training and placement, financial literacy support and referrals to additional services within CCSCC and through linkages to community partners.   The Emergency Programs and Housing Services Division (EPHS) serves families experiencing emergencies (both natural and human made) disasters as well as housing services. The Disaster Relief & Recovery Program is operated by the Program Director of Disaster Services and overseen by the Division Director of Emergency Programs and Housing Services who reports directly to the agency’s CEO.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Work closely with Second Harvest Food Bank and the City of San Jose to deliver grocery boxes to the most vulnerable population in Santa Clara County.  Vulnerable population includes community members who are either: quarantined due to positive test of COVID-19, self-isolating due to possible exposure to COVID-19 or home bound and being affected by COVID-19.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Drive, Navigate and Deliver Groceries

    1. Drive vehicles safely and follow all road regulations and traffic laws

    2. Use smart phone to access map applications and navigate to client homes

    3. Document delivery times, mileage, and assist in keeping track of receipts

    4. Communicate with clients via call or text message regarding deliveries

    5. Load and unload grocery boxes

    6. Document and sign off on deliveries made

  2. Engage in team building activities

  3. Records services in the agency Technology platform to maintain client files if needed and    completes timely, accurate documentation in a timely manner, including intake, progress and periodic reports on a schedule to be determined

  4. Serve on collaborative teams within the Emergency Programs and Housing Services Division and the agency.

  5. Complete other activities needed to meet the goals of the position and the Division.

  6. Complete other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or Higher or equivalent work experience

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  1. Must possess a strong work ethic, enjoy working collaboratively, and be capable of working independently with a high level of reliability.

  2. A high energy, optimistic attitude that encourages and motivates clients living in stressful, high pressure situations.

  3. A proven commitment to continuous quality improvement, including an openness to constructive feedback

  4. Knowledge of modern office methods and practices, including filing systems, business, correspondence, presentations, and report writing.

  5. Excellent basic computer skills (e.g. keyboarding, Microsoft Word Office Suite) as well as comfort with using cloud computing applications, electronic health records, as well as learning new technology tools quickly

  6. Experience working with vulnerable populations such as individuals with low and fixed income, underserved Santa Clara County residents, including but not limited to seniors, students, and transition-age youth.

  7. Excellent multicultural experience and ability to work well with a diverse population.

  8. Flexible, proactive, adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.

  9. Highly developed interpersonal skills, enabling the candidate to work collaboratively with diverse audiences.

PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, AND INTELLECTUAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Thrive in a fast paced, diverse and dynamic environment

  • The service is physical with the need to be able to pick up boxes 10 to 30 lbs.

  • Able to deal with stressful situations

  • Must be able to work 40 hours a week from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm

GENERAL:

  1. Valid California Driver License, personal automobile, and current auto insurance.

  2. Ability to walk or stand for long periods.

  3. Ability to lift 25 pounds.

  4. Automobile liability insurance according to agency requirements.

  5. Must be able to pass agency’s background checks.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed at multiple sites as described above.

Hours and other conditions:

This is a temporary full-time position.  Some evenings and weekends will be required to meet the needs of the position.
