Summary of Position

This role focuses on identifying and securing grant funding through government and foundation sources to grow and sustain JVS’s grants portfolio.

PROGRAM:

Principal Relationships

  • Reports to: Director of Grants
  • Collaborates with: JVS Staff, funders, employer partners, and CBO partners

Scope

  • Identifies and cultivates public and private funding prospects and partners, develops grant proposals and engages with funders in order to secure long-term funding

 QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

Minimum Competencies

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal; strong presentation skills and strong persuasive writing skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines and objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work collaboratively as part of a team to move projects forward in a fast-paced environment
  • Outstanding research, analytical skills
  • Strong computer proficiency
    • MS Office Suite
    • Raiser’s Edge
    • relational databases (e.g. Salesforce)
    • Internet research abilities
  • Excellent customer service skills, able to interact professionally with a diverse population of stakeholders, colleagues and potential or current funders
  • Skilled in managing internal and external relationships to support proposal development
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a very fast-paced, performance-oriented environment

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three to five years’ experience writing public and private grant proposals, preferably in an employment, human services or educational setting
  • Demonstrated experience developing a high volume of proposals in a fast-paced environment
  • BA/BS, preferably in a liberal arts or public policy field, or a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing proposals for public funding, with success securing foundation, state and federal grants
  • S./M.A. in Public Policy, Planning, Social Work, Education or 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Program and business development and grant proposal writing in an employment, human service or educational setting

 PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

Grant Writing/Development

  • Proposal development, including research, data collection, writing and budget development
  • Creates and manages timetables and deadlines
  • Conduct research of government, foundation and corporate grant makers both local and national to identify funding opportunities in line with agency’s strategic program goals and priorities
  • Tracks federal, state and local government funding opportunities for employment, training and education

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

  • This position will be working in a typical office setting, with no extremes in temperature or lighting
