This is a contract temporary position for 6 months (20-30 hours a month) at $35/hour


The SoMa Outreach Consultant serves in a contract position that reports to the Renaissance Women’s Business Center (WBC) Training Manager. The SoMa Outreach Consultant will be active in recruiting new clients, marketing our programs both in person and online, speaking with small business owners in the community, attending neighborhood events and town halls. You will represent the organization and work with the Renaissance WBC/SoMa team to develop and implement initiatives that increase Renaissance visibility within the surrounding community of the South of Market neighborhood district. You need to be self-motivated, enthusiastic and community-driven to take on this exciting role.

We have been building better communities for 37 years by helping lower income women and men start and grow their own businesses, transforming the lives of their owners and creating sustainable jobs, economic vitality, and vibrant neighborhoods. Renaissance operates four program centers and multiple off-site programs throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.


Note:  This role requires independent home office with frequent on-site visits to client business, events and partner locations in San Francisco, California.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities 


  • Work with Training Manager to create and implement a community and business outreach plan.
  • Organize, attend and present at business, community, and neighborhood group meetings regarding the project, its impacts and intended mitigations. 
  • Be informed about Renaissance WBC/SoMa programs and services, staff and event schedules, to provide information and assistance to clients and partners.
  • Conduct Renaissance presentations at off-site locations. Identify new sites for presentations. Represent Renaissance in off-site meetings, networking events and staff booths tabling opportunities.
  • Attend networking events or table at community events to promote our services
  • Visit local small businesses and business corridors and hand out flyers (door-to-door style)
  • Present or speak at libraries, non-profit organizations, churches, community events, neighborhood groups, and other public events.
  • Attend a weekly meeting with Renaissance staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications

  • Comfortable working in a small, highly communicative, collaborative, fast-paced and mission driven organization
  • Awareness of small businesses ownership, community development, and community organizing
  • Knowledge and experience in working with diverse communities in San Francisco and the South of Market neighborhood.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Strong writing and oral presentation skills
  • Experience in facilitating public meetings and other public forums
  • Flair for creating engaging displays
  • Bilingual Spanish or Tagalog highly desired
  • Basic computer skills
  • Available to attend evening and weekend community events and meetings


CompensationThis is a contractor position. 20-30 hours a month at $35/hour for a 6 month commitment starting in January 2022 and ending June 30th, 2022.
