The Role

JVS is seeking a Training Program Coordinator in our Utilities Department who under the supervision of the Senior Coordinator of Utilities Programs will implement and coordinate utilities program, including but not limited to:

  • Provide classroom instruction in soft skills and job search skills
  • Serve as a job coach to clients through group work and individual
  • Cultivate and maintain productive relationships with our utilities partners in transit, water and waste water sector employers, in addition to trade unions, regional workforce development organizations and Bay Area Educational Institutions
  • Support youth and adult job seekers transition to education and employment in skilled trades career pathways
  • Conducting and overseeing outreach, enrollment, classroom skills training, and job placement for any given program
  • Quality data entry and tracking

* Position is temporarily remote with expectations to return to San Francisco based in-person work in 2021

Minimum Qualifications & Competencies

  • Experience providing vocational or employment services including skills assessment, employment coaching, job development, recruitment, placement, and retention
  • Experience successfully developing career pathways for youth and adults
  • Experience developing strong partnerships and negotiating a “yes”
  • Ability to work independently and problem-solve with little assistance
  • Able to work with colleagues and clients within a flexible framework, willing to stretch outside normal job duties as needed
  • Excellent customer service and relationship management skills
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with a diverse staff and clientele
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a remote environment
  • Ability to meet deadlines and objectives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Program management experience
  • Previous experience providing vocational or employment services include skills assessment, employment coaching, job development, program recruitment, placement and retention.
  • Familiarity with Civil Service / Trades career pathways understanding or current needs and recruiter trends in utilities industry and especially in the Water/Wastewater, Energy, Transportation industries, and Building and Construction Trades
  • Experience in working in collaboration with employers, unions, apprenticeship training programs, educational institutions and other community partners.
